Busy Day
I know this is really late, but I still wanted to write about it because it was an awesome day. The sun rose on Thursday November 20th like any other Thursday but today was going to be different. My classes went on without a hitch, I was super excited during my anthropology class because right after that my friend Kayla picked me up and we were off to the Ellensburg Animal Shelter. For those who are out of the loop Kayla and I applied to be volunteers at the Animal Shelter and so we were going in for our official job shadow; that way we would know all of the fun things that we get to do when we go in each week. Our "boss" was a nice older gentleman named Tj who volunteered at the shelter with his wife and knew like everything about volunteering; he taught us how to clean up and feed the dogs and cats, where everything was located, and how to properly handle the animals when we were socializing with them. All in all it was a super fun experience, I even got to walk my first dog from there! Her name was Georgia and she was a border collie (though I think she was a mix of something else), she was super sweet and it was great walking her around. If anyone is interested I think she is up for adoption right now!!! Once we got all wrapped up with our job shadow we headed back to campus so Kayla could do her homework and I could get ready for the play I was going to that night. I got all spiffed up with my hair, makeup and outfit en pointe (and for those who can't fathom why I would get so dressed up for just a college play let me tell you. I am a firm believer of dressing up for the theater no matter what kind of theater, though there are levels of dressing up (like I would not be as fancy for Jacob's school play but very fancy if I was going to Fifth Avenue or Paramount)) and so further evidence was provided that Sarah Hoot actually has a girly side underneath her jeans, sweatshirt, and pony tail. And the show was fantastic of course! It was called the Duchess of Malfi, not a big name production but I am a sucker for plays in general so it didn't matter. The story was based in Italy in what I guess is like Shakespearean times because they all spoke in that sort of English (props to them because I did that and it sucked); it was centered around the Duchess whose husband had just died and whose brother the Duke was trying to get her remarried. However, the Duchess falls in love with her manservant which obviously was not allowed so the two of them get married in secret while the Duke is away and over the years that he is gone they start a family. But once he comes back they are in for a heap of trouble as the manservant and his oldest son escape, the Duke locks up the Duchess and he descends into madness (and even thinks that he is a werewolf). The whole play culminates in the death of basically everyone in the cast so it's definitely a tragedy but still a very good show. And I heard through the grape vine (my friend Sarah who also loves the theater) that one of the main actors had actually fallen and broken/fractured his elbow during one of the performances, but like a true thespian he soldiered through it and went on to finish all of the productions which made it all the better. That is how the day went, it was long and tiring but none the less one to remember.
