Busy Day

Image
I know this is really late, but I still wanted to write about it because it was an awesome day. The sun rose on Thursday November 20th like any other Thursday but today was going to be different. My classes went on without a hitch, I was super excited during my anthropology class because right after that my friend Kayla picked me up and we were off to the Ellensburg Animal Shelter. For those who are out of the loop Kayla and I applied to be volunteers at the Animal Shelter and so we were going in for our official job shadow; that way we would know all of the fun things that we get to do when we go in each week. Our "boss" was a nice older gentleman named Tj who volunteered at the shelter with his wife and knew like everything about volunteering; he taught us how to clean up and feed the dogs and cats, where everything was located, and how to properly handle the animals when we were socializing with them. All in all it was a super fun experience, I even got to walk my first do...

Halloween 2014 Costume and Backstory

Neville           The year started off just like every other year at Hogwarts, with the grand feast after all of the first years got sorted into their houses. Of course, since I was in my third year and already in Gryffindor house I was more interested in catching up with Harry, Ron, and Hermione. We all swapped stories of how our breaks were, Ron went with his family to Diagon Alley, Hermione reread all of her spell books (probably for the fifth time), and Harry? Well who knows what he does at home, he never talks about it. Then there’s me, I spent my break helping my grandmother (oh the joy). At a break in the conversation I took a quick glance around the room and at first didn’t notice anything in particular, but then out of the corner of my eye I caught a glimpse of the most beautiful witch I have ever seen. So I quick turned back to the others, “guys,” I asked excitedly, “who is that over there” as I casually pointed towards her. ...

Parade of Nations

Well I went to my first official fashion show and I loved it! This show consisted of fashion and some "acts" from around the world (by acts I mean like dances and  stuff). The whole show was amazing except that I wish that I had a way better camera because the one that I have now is not very good and so I had to settle with my iPod (so bare with the pictures). (Getting ready for the show) (Latin dancers representing Mexico) (Latin youth with modern Latin dancing) (European Models) (For you Jared Ramey a guy in a kilt) (Modern UK) (Peruvian dance crew) (African models) (Kenya) (Somalia) (Asia models) (Philippines traditional) (Modern Philippines) (Japanese) (Egypt) (Saudi Arabia) (Belly dancers representing Egypt)

Halloween 2014

There is always a first for everything and the Halloween of 2014 brought with it two different "firsts" for me. The first "first" was that I got to have two Halloweens: one back home with my friends and one at college with my other friends, the second was that it was the first time that I was able to do something else for Halloween besides helping with the church carnival. My first Halloween was on the 25th of October and took place at the home of the Ramey family. Let me just say that these guys go all out for Halloween; their lawn was filled with gravestones, spiders, and an 18ft Grim Reaper, they also had plenty of terrifying treats for all of their guests, and let's not forget the haunted house that they put on every year (open to the public on Halloween night). It was so much fun to see lots of my friends from school again, I missed them all terribly especially the rap scallions Jesse Rutgers and Nathan Parkhurst. Oh and of course I invited my best friend ...

Lazy K's

For all of my readers that enjoy going out and finding hole-in-the-wall restaurants here is a rating for you. Lazy K's is located in Carnation, Washington (about central Washington) it's a tiny little restaurant that at first glance looks like it is only a tavern, but don't be fooled, there is a bar side and a restaurant side so it's still kid friendly. These guys specialize in pizza and pasta but there are other options like salads and sandwiches. My grandparents and I swung through here on my way home, so if ever you are heading East or even back West stop by Lazy K's. ~atmosphere **** (This was a very fun restaurant. The walls were adorned with old fashioned tavern decorations, everything from cowboy memorabilia to show girl legs and feather boas. There is even a distraction for the kids in the form of the brown paper tablecloth (that way the parents can watch whatever sports game is on on the tavern tvs). ~food ***** (Very yummy food that proves that hole-...

Maleficent

We all know the story of Sleeping Beauty: baby is born, gets cursed by an evil witch, grows up in the woods, pricks her finger, falls asleep, and wakes up with true love’s kiss. But as with all stories there is another side one that no one ever hears, the story of the witch that cursed the beautiful princess, the story of Maleficent. The movie opens up in a magical kingdom upon the moors populated by everything from sprites to giant tree creatures; all ruled by their princess, an extremely headstrong fairy named Maleficent who is dedicated to protecting the moors from the evils of men. One day there is an upset in the kingdom, a young boy is caught stealing but instead of killing him like the fairfolk want Maleficent becomes friends with him. The friendship between Maleficent and the boy (whose name we learn is Stephen) quickly progresses into young love which is betrayed when Stephen goes off into the world of men to make his own way. Several years p...

Prayers for Marysville

Hey y'all well as you all know by now I am over at college so I do not get the first hand news like y'all do, however, thanks to Facebook I heard about the shooting that went down in Marysville Pilchuck. It is very saddening to think that this world has become a place where people feel the need to try and take the lives of others. I know from reading all of the Facebook posts that many people are outraged about what happened; but many of these enraged people find the need to place blame on more than just the shooter, everything from the shooter's parents and the rest of the people that lived in the area of the shooter. I do not want to jump to conclusions but from the intel that I received the shooter was a Native American (this fact is not confirmed so do not assume anything) based on this people found the need to place blame on the other Native Americans. Now while I do not have much experience interacting with the Natives and I do not know what they are all like, it is w...

Mr. and Ms. Central Competition

Image
Sorry for taking so long to post anything new, college life is both busy and a little boring. But something exciting has just occurred, the Mr. and Ms. Central competition! This is an annual tradition going back who knows how long; each residence hall around campus puts on their own talent competition and once those winners are decided on the Mr.s and Ms.s move on to compete against each other in front of the student body. Everyone can showcase their talents from singing, playing an instrument, dancing, rapping, juggling, comedy, even some poetry. So without further ado I present to you the Mr. and Ms. Central competitors. Most pictures provided by the Central Washington University Facebook page.  (Getting ready for the competition) (Tiana Shuford - Ms. Al-Monty) (Albert Calhoun - Mr. Al-Monty) (Anita Richards - Ms. Barto)      ( Nick Mahan - Mr. Barto)      (Ashyna Richards - Ms. Beck)     (Kory Hollingsworth -...
