Jurassic World
It is said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results, and it has occurred to me that the creators of Jurassic Park might not have ever heard this saying... After the first attempt at building a dinosaur theme park went horribly awry they rebuilt the park with new attractions and then let people in. And of course it went horribly awry when scientists started to mess with things they shouldn't, because as we all know "life finds a way."
The beginning of the movie marks the introduction of the new park Jurassic World, where all of the attractions are bigger, wilder, and scarier than ever before. Located in the labs scientists have created a new breed of dinosaur, the Indominus Rex, a new hybrid designed to both scare and attract tourists. The story follows the vacation of two boys Zach (Nick Robinson) and Gray (Tym Sympkins) as they travel to Jurassic World courtesy of their aunt Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard), one of the managers of the park. The trip gets off to a great start as the boys witness all of the attractions close up but that is when things take a turn for the worse; when Owen (Chris Pratt), raptor trainer and the new voice of reason in the park, shows up to examine the new Indominus Rex the creature manages to break loose into the rest of the park. During a recall of the tourists the boys are lost in one of the attractions and attacked by the I-Rex. Now it is up to Owen and Claire to rescue the boys and the rest of the tourists from the I-Rex before anyone else gets hurt.
Now I went to this movie with two thoughts on my mind: A. the movie was going to be super cheesy and worse than the originals, or B. that the movie was going to be one of the best continuations ever. And I am proud to say that this movie was the latter. I thought that Jurassic World was an awesome addition to the other three movies (though if we are being honest with ourselves the second movie doesn't need to be mentioned). Though the story was a little flat because there isn't much you can do to change up a "monster" movie, I loved the little plot twists and add-ins, especially the guy who wanted to use the raptors as a military weapon (no spoilers I won't say what happens to him). This movie even managed to actually scare me a bit, which was a surprise because the other movies didn't manage to do that, there was a lot of suspense and times where you weren't sure what was going to happen. I also really love that this movie really dived into the notion of science going too far when it comes to making new species and messing with nature, in the words of Pratt "does that really seem like a good idea?". If you are a fan of the series I definitely recommend going to see this movie because it really is worth it. While this movie is not too gory, it might be a little intense for small children so parents take that into consideration before taking your little ones to see it. So grab your 3D glasses and "hold onto your butts" because the park is open and it's a vacation you will not soon forget.
