Resonate Retreat pt. 1

This is the first post of two about my weekend at the resonate retreat. The next one will follow but right now I got to get some homework done.

So this last weekend I had the opportunity to go on a retreat with my new church Resonate. This was really exciting for me because I am still a new-comer to the group and it was great to interact more with the people that I was meeting. The retreat took place on the North Idaho Community College campus in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho. There were Resonate groups from all over, besides us there was Washington State University, Eastern University, and University of Idaho, all together there were around 400 people attending.

We left on Friday and headed out about 3:30. I was riding in a car with my friend Sarah (who was the person who introduced me to Resonate), Micah, and Noah (two boys from my Village (the Resonate life groups)). Our car was a party the whole ride over, with lots of Beyoncé throughout.

The four of us arrived about 6 I think. We headed in, got registered, and went in to service; I still felt a little on the outside because I didn't know anybody but Retreat was just starting. We went in to service, each service was given by a different pastor this one was about the church.

Here is the service in a nutshell (and paraphrased to add my own spin). God created everything including man, Man decides to do his own thing and was like "Bye Felicia," after hundreds of years God decided that He needed to send in reinforcements so He sent Jesus to die for the sins of the people and in doing so provided a way for the people to get back to God. After Jesus died and rose again he hung out with his boys the disciples, and while he was with them he laid out some ground work for them. Jesus told them that it was their duty to take the news of what he did to the end of the Earth. And the disciples were like "a'ight Jesus we will go" and they set off. At first the "Church" consisted of about 120 followers, but over time they grew and now Christianity is found in almost every country around the world. And that same duty is for Christians today, we are called to welcome in God's people and show them the love that God has for them.

Once our service concluded we all headed out to the beach for a party. It was pretty fun, I got to get my groove on though I didn't like all of the music that was played (I would have picked songs that were easier to dance too). After the dance party was over we headed back to the auditorium for a late night magic show. The guy was really good and he even had a great message to go along with his act. Then we packed back into our cars and headed back to Spokane to the church where we were staying for the weekend. Finally we all headed to bed.
