Resonate Retreat pt. 2&3
OK , so here are the second and third days of my retreat (yes I know I said I would post earlier but I got busy).
The second day of retreat started out quite pleasant, despite the fact that I had to sleep on the floor. We woke up, got ready, had a nutritious breakfast of muffins, bananas, and juice, then headed out to the church. First we had our morning service which was set up like a series of TED talks, short sermons on different subjects. The first was on how the church is a family and that we are all on a mission together with the mission being to spread God's love to all people. The second one was about how God made us a generous people, he gave us his love and we are supposed to give that to those who do not have it. Another sermon was about conflict and how we need to not avoid it or see it as something to compete at but instead use it to be humble towards one another to see the value in all people.
Once service was over we had a discussion with our small groups about what we just listened to, I was in a group with Sarah and a few other girls from Central. Then we broke up for lunch, our lunch break was an hour long so we got to go into town and find whatever we wanted to eat. My car full of people went to a place called Café Rio, it was a very yummy Mexican restaurant that takes pride in their fresh homemade tortillas. Lunch concluded, we went back to the campus to begin our breakout sessions. Breakout sessions are in a sense small classes that go over different topics and you could choose whichever two sounded the most interesting to you. I chose one called Using Your Degree and another called Generosity.
The Degree breakout was interesting though I have to admit, the Generosity breakout was pretty boring. The Degree class talked about how we are each called differently by God when it comes to our degrees and career paths; some He calls now for ministry, others He will call later, and some He wants to pursue their careers and by a missionary in their work force. And each one is important because though pastors and ministers are important, they only see so many people but in the outside work force you are more exposed to people and opportunities to share the Gospel. As I said before the Generosity breakout was pretty boring. It was all about tithing and giving your money to God as a college student, and while that is important I did get bored and might have dozed off once or twice (hey I was tired).
After breakouts we had three hours, give or take, for free time. So I joined a group heading downtown for some shopping and site seeing. Coeur D'Alene is a beautiful town and I recommend stopping through there; there is a lake for water activities (when it is not too cold), a great view, and lots of places to shop and restaurants to eat at. Personally, I went on a hike with my friends, went to look about some of the shops-including an amazing antique shop, and I bought myself some rock candy and some huckleberry jam.
Then it was dinner time on campus, nothing exciting just pizza and salad. Though I did make a new friend, a Brazilian foreign exchange student named Davi (I probably spelled that wrong sorry). Then back to service, this time it was about the Bible and how it is a story of God's love for us (if you want more info message me). Finally we were dismissed, but the night was still young so our church went to Buffalo Wild Wings for some late night food (I wanted Red Robin but that got vetoed). Then it was back to the church we were staying at for bed time.
Sunday dawned bright, no wait not bright we got up before the sun, and very, very early (around 6:45). This was the day we were heading home! We packed up and got into our cars and headed out, I was smooshed in the middle which made for uncomfortable napping. But I got home and after being coerced by a phone call from Jared I took a nap. And with that the Retreat was over. All in all it was a great weekend.
