Ramey Road Trip Day 10: Wildest Ride In The Wilderness
Today was both boring and exciting. We woke up reaaaaaalllllyyy early, at like 6:00 a.m., and we hated it. But we had breakfast at like 7:00ish and then headed out on our adventure for the day. This time we were heading out deeper into the mountains to go on a scenic train ride.
This was no ordinary train ride. This train was a coal powered steam train! The tracks took us up to a place called Bald Knob where we could take pictures of the large expanse of forest.
The drive out there and back was ridiculous though because the town where the train is stationed was about three and a half hours away! On the way there Jared and I basically slept the whole time because we are not morning people AT ALL (seriously, I am a grump until at least nine).
We got to the town and we were still pretty early since the train didn't leave until like 11:30 so Jared and I went to go locate the geocache that was near the train. We found it pretty quickly and I put Jacob's travel bug in it so hopefully it goes out somewhere.
Once that was done we went and looked at the little stores that were near the tracks. There was an artisanal shop with works from local artists, the gift shop in the ticket office, and the big gift shop next to the little restaurant.
The stores were all pretty cool and once we were done looking around it was time to head to our train. As we loaded up, some of the train workers handed us our "hobo" lunches -- a roll, ham, turkey, cheese, chips, cookies, applesauce, and pasta salad (these must have been some very well off hobos).
Then after a bit the train started up and we headed out into the mountains. The trip up was really cool; there was a lot of old equipment to look at and the scenery was beautiful. We even got to see a little black bear cub on the way up ( one of the animals on my must see list, the next is an alligator)! We got up to the top after a really long drive and stopped for a while to take pictures and go to the bathroom. I ate my lunch (I had to buy a salad so I could actually eat something), and then we headed back to the train to go back to the station.
The trip back down was pretty boring, and a lot dirtier since the smoke was blowing right towards us. So by the time we got to the main station we were all covered in coal and soot. Jared and I pretty much took turns sleeping on the way back down.
Once we made it back to the station Jared and I went to the big store so Jared could buy his souvenir, he bought himself a little pocket watch with a train on it.
Then we headed to the car and drove home. And we slept more ( I really don't do very well on long car rides, I sleep so much). Finally we got back to the house and we had dinner (leftover night since we got back home at around 8:00 p.m.). Now Jared is playing Magic (yes everyone, you heard correctly, he managed to find a relative that plays Magic..... oh joy), and I am blogging.
So I will wrap up this post and go back to my night, have a good night everyone! See you tomorrow!
