Ramey Road Trip Day 13: Out In The Smokies
Here we go back out into the mountains!! This time we were
out in the Great Smoky Mountains. A lot of the ride out of Tennessee was
through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. So we made several stops to
various places to get our passports stamped and enjoy the views.
We kept driving for a while until we got to a spot that we
wanted to see up in the mountains. It was just a small park that was mainly a
trail head for several different hiking trails but we went and took some
pictures since in the middle of the park was the border between Tennessee and
North Carolina.
Another place we went to had a little museum that talked
about early life in the mountains and how people made a living back then. Also
in the back was a homestead set up to show what an early farm would have looked
like. It was really cool; there was the house, the barn, a mill, a
blacksmith's shed, a meat curing shed, and even a pig pen and chicken coop
with pigs and chickens inside (well the chickens were running around). We also
got to see a bunch of wild turkeys roaming about in a field but we couldn’t go
closer because it is elk rutting season and that would have been a bad idea.
After that we didn’t really stop too much except for a
couple of stops to place some flowers on some more graves. Though we did get to
go to some local fruit stands which were nice, they had a lot of yummy looking
homemade jam. We crossed through North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, and
into Georgia where we were staying for the night.
I liked Georgia a lot I thought it was really pretty,
especially the houses which were big and really pretty looking. We even got to
see a real life preparatory school (like the stereotypical ones you see in
movies, complete with brick walls and white trim, it was huge). The campground
itself wasn’t too big, but it was inside this fancy park area that had a golf
course and a bunch of other stuff.
We pulled into our campsite and decided to go swimming since
it was so hot. So Jared, CC, and I put on our swimsuits and headed to the pool
to swim for a bit before it closed, then we headed back to the site for dinner.
After we ate our yummy dinner of potato boats, I challenged
Jared to a game of cribbage. Since he didn’t know how to play I taught him, and
he put up a noble effort but I kicked his butt both times. Then since it was
getting late and everyone was tired we got into our bed and I read for a bit
while Jared worked on some stuff (I would have done work stuff too but the
Internet connection was too slow to make that possible), until finally I got
too tired and I went to sleep.
